The brief

What the client needed.

Concept art that cannot be modelled is expensive decoration. The constraint was that every design had to survive handover: readable silhouettes at thumbnail size, detail levels a 3D artist could actually build, and colour scripts a technical artist could translate into materials.

How we ran it
  • Checked every design at thumbnail size first — if the silhouette did not read, detail would not save it.
  • Specified detail level against the modelling team’s poly budget, so nothing was painted that could not be built.
  • Delivered orthographic turnarounds and material callouts with every design, not as an afterthought.
  • Kept colour scripts on separate layers, so the 3D team could sample values directly.
  • Ran early blockouts on the two hero designs to catch proportion problems while changes were still cheap.
Result
  • Designs that entered the build without a redesign pass.
  • Modelling briefs needed no follow-up questions about detail or materials.
  • Colour values sampled straight from the files, keeping 2D and 3D consistent.
  • Two hero characters de-risked with blockouts before full illustration.
